Fastnet Short Film Festival
What a great festival it was down in Schull. I arrived down on Thursday afternoon so missed most of the screenings on the first day. When I checked into my accommodation I was pleasantly pleased to find I was right next door to Screen 2. Handy!
The first screening of My Ball was at 19:30 in screen two so I decided I go to the Cocktail launch reception at six then pop next door to watch the screening after.
I was a bit disappointed with the crowd at the screening, I counted about 10. Never the less I was happy to see my film on the big screen even if it had been cropped to 4:3.
The second screening was on the following night at 18:15 and the crowd was up a bit from the pervious night, it even got a round of applause but that maybe more to do with the fact that Pavel and Paddy were in the audience who I had a few beers with the night before.
The short listed films were announced Friday night after very enjoyable Audience with Jim Sheridan but unfortunately My Ball failed to make it.
Like her father the audience with Kirsten Sheridan was equally enjoyable Saturday night as was the Team D.A.D.D.Y talk earlier in the day.
The awards ceremony took place Sunday evening and I was delighted to see Paddy O’Shea take home the Best Drama award for his wonderful “Penny”.
Afterwards I was talking to Chris O’Dell the chairman of the festival about taking home the poster they had of My Ball on the wall as you enter screen 2.
As Chris was taking the poster down a few other committee members came over and said how much Chris liked My Ball and had he had his way it would have been short listed. Even if that was bull shit, it was a nice thing to hear.
I’m already counting down the days to next year!
